The Evolution Of Writing From Physical To Digital Realms: Michael Stickler, Best Selling Author and Founder Of Leadership Books, In the Latest Episode Of The Dinis Guarda YouTube Podcast

A widely published author and a global conference speaker in business, finance, thought leadership, and Christian leadership, Michael Stickler, is the guest in the latest episode of the Dinis Guarda YouTube Podcast. The two discuss about the immersive styles of writing and the digital transformation of the world of books. The podcast is powered by platforms like openbusinesscouncil, citiesabc, and fashionabc.

Storytelling is one of the most ancient forms of communication, and it has been used by humans to entertain, educate, and inspire others for thousands of years. From the earliest oral traditions to modern novels and films, storytelling has continued to evolve, but the basic elements of a good story remain the same.

A powerful art form, writing has the ability to captivate, inspire, and change the world. During the interview, Michael Stickler told Dinis that elemental style of a ‘story arc’ elevates a novel, an essay, a screenplay, or a blog post, to an engaging and immersive level. He emphasised on the need of building an engagement, in both fiction and non-fiction style of writing.

“You have to try and test new things. You got to be open to that. We have to see different ways that would work and help establish a connection with the audience. We are pre-programmed to follow a story arc. This is how we want stories to be told to us: fiction or non-fiction”, he said.

The ‘metaversive’ art of writing

Writing is an art form that requires the ability to absorb one’s surroundings and translate those experiences and ideas into words. It is a craft that demands the writer to be fully present in the moment, to take in the world around them and use those observations to create a unique perspective that resonates with readers.

“You’ve got to observe everything around you, with all the love in your heart, and no judgements. You would need that information to translate into a book. It is a good exercise for character development and how to engage people. If people don’t see themselves in their book, you fail. Even it’s not something they would ever do; they still need to see that in a book.

In the multicultural world that we live in, we should try to understand the different types of people: their perceptions, their cultures, languages, and backgrounds, and use that to show your own world. This is the key to a great story. When you are writing a book, you can weave all this together to deliver the message you want to. That’s going to be a book that people would like to read and proclaim”, he said.

The transition of an author and publisher to digital realms

The writing and publishing industry has undergone a massive transformation in recent years as it has shifted from traditional print publishing to digital networks. The rise of the internet and the availability of digital technology have opened up new opportunities for writers, publishers, and readers alike.

For publishers, the transition to digital networks has meant adapting to new business models and marketing strategies. Many publishers have embraced digital publishing as a way to reach new audiences and generate revenue. E-books, audiobooks, and other digital formats have become increasingly popular among readers, and many publishers now offer digital versions of their books alongside their print editions.

Commenting about this transition, Michael told Dinis that the readers of today have better channels like YouTube to consume longer formats of information. He said:

“The generations of today go to platforms like YouTube to get the long form of information. This means anything longer than a blogpost is a long form of information. We are, therefore, translating our current books into online courses. We supplement these courses with discussion or study guide. So, the package has the author speaking about the book, telling the background story about it. With this speed and volume of consumption, I believe, there’ll be more courses than books out there.”

Concluding the interview, he shared some insights with Dinis:

“I try to keep it simple for writers: be passionate. Dump your gut on the keyboard. Do not hold back. I want to see your embarrassment, fun, laughter, intimacy, humility, vulnerability, failure: everything. You let people know how you feel, and engage them with it. That’s the goal of good writing.”
