Social Media is increasingly more important for politicians around the world. Any party of political organisation who is not paying attention to social media is condemned to disappear. Parties are very aware of this, and are spending more resources and focus on building their digital and social media profiles. They use social media to broaden the reach of their audiences and augment the reach of their message and promote their leaders.
Coordinated by Dinis Guarda, Mentor of INSEEC’s Digital Marketing Master, and the founder of intelligentHQ, a group of students at INSEEC Business School, London’s campus, did a comprehensive research about the presence of UK and European political parties, on the internet, particularly in the social media channels.
Firstly they researched what were the main political parties in the main countries in Europe. Based on this research they gathered data about those parties website performances thanks to the website Alexa.
Finally they analysed the parties’s social media presence, based on the number of followers on the biggest platform worldwide (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and search queries keywords.

Quentin Guignard is a Graduate in Sport Management. He is currently completing a master’s degree in digital marketing at Sup de Pub (INSEEC group). Quentin is interested in data analysis and social media, and his goal is to work in the digital area. Quentin thinks that this case study about political parties was very thought provoking in order to gain awareness about political parties presence in the internet.
Victoria Gascard has a technical degree in Communication taken in Paris, and a Bachelor of Brand’s Strategy taken at Sup de Pub (INSEEC group). She is now enrolled in the first year of Master in Digital Marketing and social media. Victoria has worked previously for many charities, and NGO’s. That is the reason why, in collaboration with her team, that she chose an engaged communication topic such as the one of analyzing political parties.
Laura Casanova is from Corsica, having previously studied sciences of management. Afterwards, she decided to gain more experience abroad, which led her to take a Master degree at sup de pub in London, in order to improve her English and study digital marketing which she finds absolutely indispensable nowadays. In her opinion the research they did on political parties and social media is very important as it brings great insight on the links between political parties use of Social Media and their election’s result.
Sophie De Ruyck, is a 21 year old student in London taking a MBA in Digital Marketing and Social Media. She really enjoys the digital world, as it’s clearly the future. For her it’s quite interesting to learn well how it really works!
Charlaine Ferrand comes Paris. Previously she completed a BA degree in Applied Foreign Languages and Business Studies. She then decided to do a first year of MBA Marketing at Sup de Pub Groupe Inseec in Paris and one year at Inseec Group in London in Digital Marketing and Social Media. Her aim was to make from the two fields one common area, and to link English culture with digital marketing. She is an attentive and motivated person who thinks that analyzing and optimizing political parties through Internet are vital. It is a good way to learn whose following politics and their influences on people.
