Hilton Supra, Vice Chairman of ztudium Group, interviews Jannah Patchay, Executive Director and Policy & Strategy Lead at Digital Pound Foundation, in the latest episode of Citiesabc YouTube Podcast. The two experts discuss the role of The Digital Pound Foundation in designing the digital Pound in both publicly and privately issued formats.
Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) are digital representations of a country’s fiat currency, issued and regulated by the central bank. Digital Pound Foundation is a member-led non-profit forum that aims to support the wider understanding of new forms of digital money, whether that’s in the form of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), stablecoins, tokenised deposits, or otherwise. As governments and central banks explore the implementation of CBDCs, the Digital Pound aims to modernise the payment ecosystem, improve financial inclusion, and enhance the efficiency and transparency of transactions.
During the interview, Hilton and Jannah discuss the multiple facets of digital currencies. Jannah also highlighted that by providing a secure and stable digital alternative to physical cash and traditional banking systems, the Digital Pound plays a crucial role in stabilising financial systems, especially during times of economic uncertainty or crisis. Moreover, CBDCs like the Digital Pound look forward to offer interoperability, enabling seamless transactions across borders and between different digital currencies, thereby facilitating global trade and commerce.
