SEO can be a scary term, especially if you are unfamiliar with how Google and other search engines such as Bing work. Plus, with so many misconceptions floating around the web, it can be difficult to see the service in a positive light – which is where Absolute Digital Media can step in. Check out some of the most common misconceptions we hear on a regular basis below and find out how it can benefit your website on an ongoing basis, below.
Misconception #1: “SEO Is A One Time Thing”
SEO is not a one-time-only service, it’s a process and, in order to keep your website at the top, you must continue with your SEO strategy. Should you stop, you risk your website getting lost in Google rankings and potentially slipping off page 1. Due to this, you want to invest consistently. If you want fast results, however, then you may choose for PPC to be your primary digital marketing method.
Misconception #2: Links Links Links
Whilst links are an important part of SEO, there are numerous other factors that impact your Google rankings. Now, Google focuses on link quality over quantity, so you need to make sure that the links you do get are of a high standard, otherwise, you may risk your site being penalised. Note that driving thousands of links to your website doesn’t necessarily mean that your site will skyrocket to the top of the SERPs!
Misconception #3: SEO Provides Immediate Results
Despite what anyone tells you, SEO does not provide immediate results. It’s a long-term strategy so, as you can imagine, you must be patient and wait for the results to roll in. In some cases, however, you may be lucky! On occasion, some keywords may begin to achieve high rankings right from the get go whilst others can take 3, 4 or even 5 months to climb the SERPs.
Misconception #4: “Everyone Can Do SEO”
In an ideal world, everyone would be able to optimise their website for SEO but unfortunately, not everyone has the knowledge to do so. SEO is a specialised skill, and only a small number of people know enough in order to achieve the top 3 rankings. If you’re doing your sites SEO yourself, then we highly suggest making sure that you understand how the different search engines work, otherwise you may run into a penalty that could de-index your site completely.
Misconception #5: “Only Google Matters”
Google may be the biggest search engine, but don’t forget that there are a number of other search engines out there! Yahoo and Bing are just two other search engines that boast more than 700,000,000 monthly visitors between them, meaning that you could be missing out on all that traffic!
Whilst there are a number of SEO misconceptions, these are just 5 that SEO agencies, professionals and individuals come across on a regular basis. What SEO misconception have you heard that’s made you look twice?
