Print has unique advantages that more modern, digital marketing methods don’t; it’s deeply personal and better situated to make an emotional impact. Even so, print marketing materials often need a little something extra to compete with other campaigns in your industry—both print and digital.
You don’t necessarily have to completely overhaul your printed materials to give your business an edge. Sometimes you just need to add something new. Here are 3 enhancements you can incorporate into your print marketing campaign to get a leg up on your competition.

Unusual Imprint Methods
When we think of printed marketing materials, we typically think of conventional printing—either four color process or PMS ink. But there are other ways to imprint a design onto a piece. Foil stamping, for instance, is a simple way to make your collateral appear more expensive and luxurious without spending a lot of extra money. Embossing and debossing, on the other hand, technically doesn’t add anything to the piece at all—it embeds a design direct into your paper stock by either raising or depressing portions of it. This creates a subtle visual effect on its own, or it can be used in combination with other imprint methods to add texture and dimensionality.
Unique Business Card Slots
Presentation folders and binders often feature slots on the pockets that allow the user to insert their personal business card. They’re especially useful at networking events where you need to present people with a lot of materials at once (including your own contact information). Business card slots don’t need to be the same old four-corner slots every single time, either. There are tons of different possibilities, and with custom-shaped slots, the only limit is your imagination. Check out the business card slot infographic below (created by Company Folders) for some creative examples.
Digital Interactivity
We don’t normally think of print and digital media as having much to do with one another, but there’s more potential for overlap than you might expect. One simple way to incorporate digital elements into your print piece is to add a QR code. Audiences can use their smartphones to access your website, email, or social media account simply by scanning your marketing collateral design. There are also more advanced, complex ways to make your print marketing digitally interactive.
By thinking outside the box when it comes to your printed materials, you can use the element of the unexpected to grab people’s attention and get them more engaged with your brand.
