Meta, in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, is set to launch the latest Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, introducing advanced AI capabilities, real-time translation, and enhanced accessibility features. Scheduled for release in March 2025, this new generation of smart eyewear aims to push the boundaries of wearable AI technology.

The latest update enhances the glasses’ ability to see, hear, and understand, enabling users to interact with their surroundings in a more intuitive and seamless way. With innovations such as live translation, smart memory, hands-free assistance, and multimodal AI, these smart glasses are evolving from a simple fashion accessory to a powerful AI-driven tool designed for everyday life.

AI-powered live translation and smart assistance

Meta is leveraging the power of its latest Llama 3.2 AI model to introduce real-time translation capabilities to the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. In a recent demonstration, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg showcased how the glasses can facilitate conversations between different languages by translating speech within one to three seconds. Initially supporting Spanish, French, and Italian, the system is expected to expand to include additional languages over time.

Beyond translation, the glasses will introduce smart memory, enabling users to store and recall information through AI-driven prompts. Users will be able to ask the glasses to remember where they parked, set reminders for errands, and even receive AI-generated fashion recommendations based on their surroundings.

Advanced vision capabilities: Object recognition and QR code scanning

The integration of multimodal AI extends beyond speech recognition, as the smart glasses will now offer visual intelligence. With an upgraded ultra-wide 12 MP camera, the device can identify objects in real-time, providing instant information about what the user is seeing.

Additionally, users will be able to scan QR codes directly through the glasses and initiate phone calls by simply looking at a printed phone number. These upgrades position Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses as a key player in augmented reality (AR) technology, bridging the gap between physical and digital interactions.

Be my eyes integration: Enhanced accessibility

Meta is also expanding the accessibility potential of its smart glasses by integrating with Be My Eyes, a platform designed to assist visually impaired users. Previously requiring a smartphone, the service can now function directly through the smart glasses, allowing users to receive real-time assistance from volunteers without needing to hold a phone.

This feature enhances the utility of smart glasses beyond convenience, making them a practical tool for accessibility.

Enhanced audio and streaming capabilities

The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are also receiving significant audio upgrades, making them a viable replacement for traditional earbuds. The device now supports expanded music streaming integrations with platforms such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Audible, and iHeartRadio.

The glasses’ five-microphone system will enable high-fidelity sound capture, while an improved background noise suppression algorithm will enhance call clarity, offering an immersive audio experience comparable to dedicated headphones.

Live-streaming and social media integration

Building on their popularity as a hands-free content creation device, the upcoming model will allow users to live-stream directly to Facebook and Instagram. Equipped with a 12 MP camera, the glasses will capture high-quality 1080p video with an ultra-wide field of view, enhancing the live-streaming experience.

According to Rocco Basilico, Chief Wearables Officer at EssilorLuxottica, user feedback has driven these innovations:

“The biggest input we received was around the desire for live-streaming. We found that people were already using the frames to capture impactful moments. So, naturally, the next progression was the ability to share these moments in real time while still being present.”

This feature is expected to make Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses a preferred tool for content creators, offering a frictionless way to capture and share experiences.

New transparent frames and Extended Battery Life

To mark the latest advancements, Meta is releasing a limited-edition transparent Wayfarer frame design. This new aesthetic allows users to showcase the underlying smart technology while maintaining the iconic Ray-Ban look.

Additionally, battery life is significantly improved, with a redesigned charging case that extends usability by up to 32 hours. The sleek brown charging case, designed to resemble a classic Ray-Ban case, reinforces the glasses’ blend of technology and fashion.
