“I don’t want to be disconnected from society because of time constraints. You can always make time for social impact.
My passion for technology and community drives me to invest in areas where both business and humanity benefit. Today, as an investor, I have the full backing of my family back in India, and that investment is helping me to drive my passion towards business in the technology and humanity section as well.
The ideas I’ve nurtured over the years may not have always succeeded as startups, but I’ve learned a lot from them. I know that others have taken these ideas and made them work, which is rewarding in its own way. It shows that technology can truly transform lives when applied with the right intent.
Through my work in data optimisation and business transformation, I have always strived to drive innovation and create value across various sectors, including investment banking, oil and gas, and government. My commitment extends beyond business to making a positive impact through philanthropy and social responsibility.”
AI innovations and smart cities
Dilip’s work in AI and smart cities is centred on integrating technology in ways that benefit both society and the environment. Dilip explains:
“A smart city can be developed from an ecological point of view, sustainability point of view, or environment point of view. How we can leverage AI so that cities become smart but at the same time giving other benefits like the smarter citizens where citizens get benefit out of smart infrastructure, where the infrastructure is more used by humans in a proper and channelised manner- These are the key areas of my research. You have to learn from history.
In one of my articles, “Ancient Civilisation”, I’m teaching about this part as to how the Mohenjo Daro and Indus Valley used to build civic sense of society The infrastructure they had built and the crisscross structure, and what is the use of that crisscross structure, why they developed, and how it could be utilised. With more knowledge and learning from these, we can ensure sustainable humanity. So, that’s my research work and it keeps on driving me in that direction.”
On concluding the interview Dilip Pungliya shares his thoughts with young aspirants:
Dilip advises, “To young people, I would say that you don’t need to start with big dreams. Focus on small, manageable goals and take baby steps. Passion and persistence are key—keep moving forward and gradually, your small achievements will build up to realise your bigger dreams. It’s not about planning your future in 50-year chunks but setting goals for the next 2 or 6 months. Each success you achieve will pave the way for more success, and that’s the approach I’ve applied throughout my life and career.”
